The team was based in South Ruislip this morning, knocking on the doors of residents living around Radbournmead Drive. Many people we contacted told us they were unaware of just how close the Government is planning the HS2 tunnel entrance from their homes. Although some said they had been contacted by the 'No to HS2' camapaign, it was clear that many of the local residents were pleased to see faces from local politics out and about, interested in the area.

Hillingdon East

The campaign team hit the roads around the Hillingdon East area yesterday morning. We started on The Dingle horseshoe and worked our way on from there, visiting both Marlborough and Nelson Roads. Turnout was good and many residents were pleased to see concerned faces on their doorstep, listening to what they had to say and discussing the local area.

Feedback was good and some of the main concerns to be highlighted by local residents were that of crime and neighbourhood safety. Anti-social incidents were reported to us and many people spoke of their upset at certain parts of the ward being neglected by the council. We discovered a good base in this region and will be feeding concerns back to the party.

Support In Manor Ward

On this bitterly cold and icy morning the campaign team canvassed in Manor ward, around the Ruislip Court area just off of West End Road. It was fantastic to see so many residents greeting us on their doorstep and willing to discuss some of the problems and issues they have been facing in recent times. One resident spoke to us of her concern regarding anti-social behaviour in the area and the improvements that she would like to see happen. Another spoke of their annoyance that the council has been neglecting issues he raised with them many months ago.

The support that was shown by local people helped us to forget about the cold conditions and the variety of topics (ranging from the role of trade unions with one TU member to discussing the burdens placed on social housing under the current Mayor of London) ensured that we were able to keep on top of holding the council to account and providing citizens with an alternative at the next election.

Yiewsley

This morning the campaign team visited Yiewsley, talking to local residents around the Tavistock works area just off of the High Street. Feedback was good with local concerns being crime and traffic, two areas which many people living in the constituency have already highlighted as key issues. We have also been looking into some of the other published topics that are affecting the area, such as the 'Swan Pub closure' and the 'Demolition of Yiewsley Swimming Pool.'

Canvassing in South Ruislip Ward

This weekend the campaign team began what is to be a series of weekend canvass sessions in and around the constituency in the run up to the mayoral election on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

On Saturday we visited Great Central Avenue in South Ruislip and spoke to local residents about their concerns. The major issue in this area continued to be the proposed development of HS2 and the effect this proposal would have on local residents. Time and again people told us of their anger at the possibility of losing the only supermarket in the area, Sainsburys, and how the local Council had failed to address their concerns. Crime also remained high on the agenda and homeowners did speak of their concerns for safety, once again feeling let down by the current administration.

On Sunday the team returned to the Ruislip Gardens area, still in South Ruislip ward and canvassed in Bedford Road, Ruislip Gardens. Traffic congestion was a major issue alongside the road condition, both highlighted by many residents as being points which needed addressing. Once again it was good to hear positive feedback from local people in the area who had felt let down by a lack of presence on behalf of the Council. One lady even said to us that we were the first campaigners she had seen in over 20 years and that it was good to be able to put a face to a name!

Campaigning in Ruislip Gardens

Over the weekend the campaign team hit the roads around the Ruislip Gardens area. Many residents spoke to us about their concerns, with some of the main issues being 'Policing and Crime,' and 'Rubbish collection.' Over the coming weeks and months we will be focusing more heavily on local issues and hope to discuss these with members of the public to gauge opinion. As part of our brand new campaign launch we are trying to connect with as many local people as possible and actually put our ideas into action.
